Olympich Market

The Olympic Market Phnom Penh (in Khmer called Psah Olympic) was built back in 1962. Back then the area was sparsely populated and the Olympic Market haven’t had the dimensions of today. After the Khmer Rouge period, the area was more densely settled and the market no longer met the requirements. The new Olympic Market was built by Thai company Thai Boon Roong and completed in 1994. The Market was increased in size enormously and is now 3 stories high. The Olympic Market in Phnom Penh had the first escalators in Cambodia and these escalators are still in use.

The surroundings of the Phnom Penh Olympic Market are very busy and the entrance is often blocked by tuk-tuks and motodups. In the outer region of the market are many shops located, selling Cambodian delicacies. Once you are inside the Olympic Market the bustle is very hectic and the corridors are rather narrow.
